Weird Science

Weird Science was made in 1985. The story is that two nerds Gary Wallace (Anthony Michael Hall) and Wyatt Donnelly (IIan Mitchell-Smith) are the laugh-stocks of their school. One night after watching the movie Frankstein, the two get the idea of making their own girl from a barbie doll and Wyatt's state of the art computer. The two make her, but it turns out that she also has superhuman abilities like memory manipulation, altering reality and others. Gary and Wyatt end up naming her Lisa (Kelly LeBrock). Throughout the movie Lisa is helping Gary and Wyatt get the girls that they have liked since their got to high school. The problem is that the two girls have boyfriends, Ian (Robert Downey Jr.) and Max(Robert Rusler), that are the ones that harass Gary and Wyatt the most.

This movie is another root for the underdog comedy. Most of the film is Lisa showing Gary and Wyatt all of the good traits that they have, in order to give them confidence around these two girls. Also since the film was made in 1985, you get to see the technology of the time and the way the main characters make Lisa. It is a very funny scene, that made me have to pause the film because i was laughing at it. The film has corny parts, but there are other parts that make the corny parts actually funny.

Airheads

Airheads is a comedy film made in 1994. The plot is that Chazz (Brendan Fraser), Rex (Steve Buscemi), and Pip (Adam Sandler) are a failing rock band called "The Lone Rangers". The band is trying to get a record deal, but everyone is turning them down. When attending a concert of one of their past competition, Sons of Thunder, they realize that in order to get a record deal they need to get their song played on the radio. They decide to get the same radio station that helped Sons of Thunder, KPPX 103.6 "Rebel Radio". So they sneak into the station to try and get their song played. The band goes to DJ Ian "The Shark" (Joe Mantegna) to have their song played and he talks to them while on the air. The manager (Michael McKean) comes in and tells Ian to get them out of here calling them "Hollywood Boulevard trash". Rex gets upset and pulls out a fake uzi and demands that their song be played and take the entire station hostage.

This film is a funny comedy that has a root for the underdog theme. There were quite a few laughs on my part and seeing the technology in 1994 is just a blast from the past. Fraser, Buscemi, and Sandler really pull off the standard rock band that is down on its luck. They also play off each other in the film to make this film very enjoyable. Also the fact that they take an entire station hostage with just a couple of fake uzis is just hysterical and makes you wonder when will the hostages realize that the weapons are fake.

Biography

I grew up in Carpinteria, California which is located near Santa Barbara, California. I attended Bishop Garcia Diego High School. For the 4 years, that I attended Bishop High, I parpicated in football for 4 years, volleyball for 4 years, and wrestling for 1 year.

I am the the younger middle child out of my 3 siblings. I have my sister Anita 3 years older than me, older than her is my brother Ivan, and then 3 years younger than me is my brother Ben. My younger brother Ben is the sibling that all of us look out for because he is autistic. Currently I am the only one of the siblings still in college. Some of the reasoning for picking this college in Hawaii is that my dad grew up in Hawaii and is part Hawaiian. My sister just got out of college and my older brother has been out of college for quite some time now. My younger brother is currently in high school.

Personal Review on Act of War: The Overthrow of The Hawaiian Nation

This film is about the Hawaiian people having their sovereignty and independence taken from them by the United States. I personally liked the film and the way that it was presented. When watching it, I thought that i was watching a documentary similar to the ones that are on the History Channel. I also liked this film because it was very informative on the events that led up to Hawaii's annexation into the United States. Throughout the film, the historians gave very detailed descriptions of the conflict, which made processing event very easy. I really love the history channel and having the film in that similar fashion kept me very interested to it. The film showed the Hawaiian people's side of the story, mainly the side that wanted to stay a independence sovereign nation. I do agree that the Hawaiian people had their land taken from them by the United States because of a combination of Manifest Destiny and politicians wanting Hawaii for military purposes.
